When B Lab launched a major update to the B Impact Assessment standards, our team was tasked with reimagining the platform experience to match the new structure. This shift presented a unique opportunity: not only did we need to align with a new information architecture, but we could also address long-standing user pain points, especially around collaboration.

Historically, teams had to export their assessment into spreadsheets to track progress, assign tasks, and coordinate efforts. This led to version control issues, dropped tasks, and confusion about ownership. Users repeatedly asked: "Can’t we just track this inside the platform?"

Through user interviews, concept testing, and usability testing, we uncovered a common need: simple, embedded project management tools that would let users coordinate workflows within the same space they complete their assessment.

Our Solution

We designed a lightweight suite of task management features, embedded directly into the assessment flow:

• Due dates
• Comments and Tagging
